Federal Estimated tax payments (IRS Form 1040-ES): Payments are due on the 15th day of the 4th, 6th, and 9th months of your tax year and on the 15th day of the 1st month after your tax year ends.  (For individuals, this is December 31.)

If the 15th happens to fall on a Saturday, Sunday, or a Government Holiday, then your payment is usually going to be due on the following Monday — but the actual due dates are also printed on the 1040-ES payment coupon that must accompany your estimated tax payment.

The 2013 IRS 1040-ES (Estimated Tax Payment) due dates are:

  • 1st Quarter: Apr. 15, 2013
  • 2nd Quarter: Jun. 17, 2013
  • 3rd Quarter: Sep. 16, 2013
  • 4th Quarter: Jan. 15, 2014

PLEASE NOTE: You may also owe State estimates if you live in a state with it’s own income tax.

This year, the IRS has been very tardy releasing the 1040Es form — if you are looking for the instructions or mailing address, (or if you are still waiting for it to arrive in the mail from IRS) you may download a copy by visiting this page and clicking on “current 1040 Es package”: http://www.irs.gov/uac/Form-1040-ES,-Estimated-Tax-for-Individuals-1
